KIEP-SKIES project

About KIEP

The Kenya Industry and Entrepreneurship Project (KIEP) is a US$50 million project being implemented by the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry (MITI), with support from the World Bank Group. KIEP aims to increase innovation and productivity in select private-sector firms.

Strengthening the ecosystem’s support infrastructure, known as SKIES (Strengthening Kenya’s Innovation Ecosystem (SKIES), is sub-component 1a under component 1 of the Kenya Industry and Entrepreneurship Project (KIEP). The sub-component 1a aims to strengthen the ecosystem infrastructure by building the capacity of incubators, accelerators, and technology boot camp providers (collectively referred to as Intermediaries).

This involves developing and deepening their operational strengths and individual business models as the ecosystem moves towards operational sustainability, expansion, and increased quality of services provided. Additionally, the project subsidizes tuition costs for students in technology boot camps. Spineberg and E4Impact lead this initiative as the Management Firm.

Be a Game-Changer

The project aims to benefit 10 beneficiaries for Track 1 (Incubators and Accelerators) and 8 beneficiaries for Track 2 (Techbootcamp providers), along with 267 students who will receive scholarships for rapid tech skills training for phase 1.
