Track 1:- Application Process

Beneficiaries & Eligibility Criteria Under Track 1 include:

Accelerators & Incubators – These include accelerators or incubators operating in Kenya. Accelerators are defined as organizations that offer fixed-term, cohort-based programs that include seed investment, connections, mentorship, and educational components, and culminate in a public pitch event or demo day to accelerate startup growth. Incubators are organizations that help startups to develop and grow by providing services such as management training or office space, also referred to as hubs and innovation centers. 

Eligibility Criteria - Incubator

Growth Stage

Operations for at least one year for the early stage and five years for the growth stage.

Incubation Programs

Incubated at least 2 incubation programs.

Early-Stage Enterprise

Ability to show their support for early-stage enterprise.

Supported Start-ups

60% or more supported start-ups are in the value addition, agro-processing and/or manufacturing sector.

Be a Game-Changer

The project aims to benefit 10 beneficiaries for Track 1 (Incubators and Accelerators) and 8 beneficiaries for Track 2 (Techbootcamp providers), along with 267 students who will receive scholarships for rapid tech skills training for phase 1.

Eligibility Criteria for Incubators & Accelerators

Registered

Legally registered in Kenya

2 years of existence

More than 2 years of existence.

2 years Management

Successfully managed at least 2 incubation or acceleration programs.

60% of supported start-ups

Over 60% of supported start-ups in incubators and scale-ups in accelerators are in value addition, agro-processing, or manufacturing sectors.

Vision 2030

Alignment with Government's Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda and Kenya Vision 2030.

Early-stage Enterprises

Demonstrate support for early-stage enterprises in the case of incubators and growth stage enterprises for accelerators

Funding For Phase I

A total of $3.7 Million in performance-based grants will be given to chosen Accelerators and Incubators, while selected Tech Bootcamp providers are scheduled to receive $800,000. Students who are part of Rapid Tech Skills programs will experience reduced tuition costs amounting to $450,000. A similar funding amount is allocated for phase II.

Cross-cutting criteria for both Incubators & Accelerator

  • The geographical distribution of the applicant intermediaries to ensure wider coverage;
  • The stage of development of the intermediary
  • Orientation to social and environmental impact including contributions to climate change mitigation and adaptation;
  • Alignment with Government Priorities and Kenya Vision 2030 Development Agenda
